For a girl who, by definition, should have no personality or preferences, Liborette is surprisingly full of character. Most people just dont take the time to know her— and how could they? She is woefully inarticulate and shy. When asked directly what she likes or wants, she just shrugs, stares, and waits for the other party to fill the ensuing silence.
Haurchefant, like everyone else, chose things for her. He lead the relationship because Liborette needs a leader. But as he did this, he observed her so lovingly, so patiently. He eagerly learned her every quirk, wish, and predisposition. When she found herself unable to answer his questions, he confidently shared what he knew of her.
Which colour would you prefer?
...
Well, this golden hue matches your beloved chocobo. Let us take this one!
Like this, through Haurchefant's eyes, she came to know herself. Sometimes it was his own will and preferences he placed upon her, but he most always had her best interests in mind. Even his more selfish assertions she received without question. It just felt so good to be noticed, to be cherished exactly as she was.
Below, you will find descriptions of Liborette's intrinsic personality. Aspects influenced by her loved ones are properly noted. Whether or not she could express aloud even one of these truths... well.
No matter how much her character develops, she will always hate talking about herself.

Habits
While Journeying
When acting as a messenger, she practices what she's been asked to say for the entire journey. She mumbles the message under her breath over and over so she can repeat it exactly as ordered. Overall, she is an attentive listener and she retains information well.
She takes excellent care of her weapons and animal companions. Every night, she cleans and sharpens her sword. Every morning, she grooms her chocobos and sticks the stray feathers in her hair. It's a little ritual she has to feel their support even when they're apart.
She has a terrible sense of direction and needs to keep her map out at all times, even when navigating places she has been before. Rather than ask for help, she'll just wander around lost until she stumbles onto her destination.
She gets so focused on her quests that she forgets to eat and sleep. Anyone else would have dropped dead by now. Probably, it is Hydaelyn's blessing sustaining her. She does drink a lot of water, though, and will stop at clear streams to let her chocobo rest.
She is up at all hours of the day and night with no set schedule. Eventually, she gets so exhausted she has no choice but to sit down under a tree or inside a cave to take a nap. She wakes up twelve hours later, totally disoriented.
When ordered to rest the night before a big battle, she sleeps as close as possible to whomever in the party she trusts most. If they'll allow it, she'll even sleep directly on top of them. (Most do not allow this.)
She frequently has nightmares. Heavensward spoilers: When Haurchefant dies, she relives the moment every night. After that, rather than coincidentally deprioritising her needs, she intentionally avoids sleeping.
In Social Situations
She is patient to a fault, to the point of self destruction, until her loved ones teach her to have boundaries. Her naivety remains. If you told her someone wrote "gullible" on the ceiling, then she looked up but didn't see it, she'd assume someone must have erased it really fast.
Most jokes elude her. People assume she is just too serious, but really her sense of humour is more straightforward. She is ticklish and weak to funny faces, and she enjoys being picked up and spun around.
She can't resist a person in need. She is easily lured by someone asking for help or claiming they have a job for her. On top of that, she always believes the first thing she is told. If it turns out Quest Giver A is the one who wronged Quest Antagonist B... She simply won't listen and will continue on with her first impression.
She is generally very fidgety, which makes me think she is a little bit anxious literally all the time. While seated, her feet rarely touch the ground, so she swings her heels or bounces in her seat. When standing up, she'll fiddle with her bag or sleeve or something.
She feels most ill at ease when surrounded by strangers— people who all want something from her. She stays quiet, giving her full attention to anyone speaking. Among friends and allies, she calms down a bit, but remains desperate for approval and orders.
As the orders roll in, she struggles to manage overlapping tasks and expectations. She hates to be scolded for forgetting something or arriving late, as she often does. Her greatest insecurity is any threat to her usefulness.
If she could speak up for herself, explaining she was late because she rescued some children from orphan-eating monsters on the way, she would have an easier time in life. But she'd rather endure another's disapproval than suffer through conversation.
Overall, she is confident in her ability to defeat any enemy, journey to any location, and acquire any item. She has low points, of course, but if it's a problem she can solve with violence, she won't have to worry for too long.
Battles relax her. Direct physical contact with someone she trusts relaxes her. Only those things make social situations more bearable, and for that reason, she has friends who always hold her hand. Really, though, she much prefers to be alone in nature with her chocobos.
She wears the mask of the helpful and courageous adventurer. Legends of her heroism magnify this, spinning her into an insurmountable force of nature, the representation of true love and goodness. "Hope incarnate," as Haurchefant called her.
People who know her personally see her as someone reliable, an overall "good girl." She knows they find her awkward and strange, too, but she can't think of any other way to be. She appreciates people who overlook her oddness in favour of her utility.
That is how she sees herself, after all: a hypercapable person with nothing better to do but help others. In her heart of hearts, what she really loves is the spontaneity. The adventure! She enjoys doing something new each day, never knowing what's next.
Speech Patterns
She is very quiet. She prefers nodding and pointing to speaking. If necessary, she might grunt or hum a little bit. To hear actual words from Liborette, you must prompt her directly, and orders to speak are her least favourite. Her sentences stay short— five or six words on average, but just one is really best. Conversing with her is frustrating unless you're fine doing all the talking.
Her desire to speak grows alongside her relationship with Haurchefant. Unlike those impatiently extracting information from her, he asks her fun and interesting questions. He waits out the silence while she remembers how to move her mouth. He is the only person to ever have extensive, free-flowing conversations with her.
Dark Knight job quest spoilers: Unless you count Fray, but that's just self-talk with extra steps. More on that later.
Over time, her stilted sentences grow longer and more elaborate. They take on the lyrical quality of Haurchefant's own speech. Ultimately, she thinks and speaks in a refined manner despite having no education whatsoever. It's just her lover's influence ♥! Having her internal monologue match their conversation style keeps him close even when they're far apart.
Overall, she still prefers nonverbal communication and shorter sentences. She will attentively listen to anyone and everyone, but talking is just too intense for her. She especially hates speaking to strangers. With an ally she has known for at least a year, she can speak somewhat normally. More likely, she will expect the person in the room that she trusts the most to communicate for her. She will not inform them of her expectation, leading to hilarious and disastrous consequences.
Under stress, her voice is the first thing to go. Even if she wanted to scream, she couldn't make a sound. It's like her throat cinches shut and her heart freezes in her chest. She can go completely mute for days.
The loophole in her communication quirks: Fray. Dark Knight job quest spoilers below.
Fray, for as long as Liborette knows her, is mostly a figment of her imagination. She represents repressed needs and unacknowledged desires. When Fray holds a physical form, she speaks of her own accord and Liborette answers silently. Otherwise, their conversations are entirely internal. Their unique relationship skips over the painful vocalisation process.
When talking to Fray, Liborette is more articulate than ever, proving she has a rich inner world and at least average intelligence. She retains the eloquence she picked up from Haurchefant.
In contrast, Fray speaks more casually and modernly because, canonically, she is meant to represent the average Final Fantasy XIV player. In my universe, she also represents Liborette freed from influence, particularly Haurchefant. BokoFray is the bandaid slapped on the BokoHorsey grief trauma, after all.
In any case, Fray enjoys Liborette at her least filtered. She hears, understands, and actively craves to know her every thought and feeling, including ones simmering beneath the surface.

Preferences
Food
When she remembers to eat or is offered food, she always cleans her plate. She won't leave a single crumb behind! Haurchefant finds it endearing how she literally licks her plate, but asks her to stop when dining with nobles.
She's not picky at all. She'll eat whatever you put in front of her, even if it's yucky. However, her favourite foods are warm, filling, and easy to eat. She really loves soup and gruel. Her go-to recipe is basically "everything stew," where she boils whatever she can hunt and gather in one pot.
While she is a decent culinarian, she prefers to eat others' cooking. She greatly enjoyed everything Medguistl made at Camp Dragonhead. That's where Haurchefant taught her to dip bread in her stew. It absolutely blew her mind!
She likes plain, mild, straightforward sweets. Haurchefant learns this by feeding her assortments of desserts just after her arrival in Ishgard's capitol.
She cannot handle alcohol. She is known to pass out drunk after only one or two drinks, and mumble strange things in her sleep.
Environment
Her bag is disorganised, and any room she occupies quickly gets messy. She won't notice at all until someone tells her to clean up, and that orderliness never lasts.
She has basically no design sense. If she had to furnish her own home, she would just collect soft things... Blankets, curtains, and cushions that feel pleasant to touch. And practical things for her adventures— like an armour stand, or some crazy stable to bring her chocobos indoors.
She prefers sunny days that aren't too windy, with puffy, white clouds. Wind, rain, and too much cloud cover make it harder for her to navigate. Her map gets wet or blows around, or she can't see the stars... She associates rainy days with frustrations while travelling, and may get a bit moody about bad weather even if she's indoors.
Ironically, she loves snow, despite the fact that it's even worse for travel than rain. One winter, she was nearly buried in a Coerthan blizzard. She would have died if Haurchefant hadn't rushed into the storm to rescue her. Or, well, a normal person would have died. Someone like Liborette would just be... uncomfortable.
This one event symbolises all the sacrifices Haurchefant made in the name of her comfort, proving she is someone worth caring for. When she sees snow, she thinks of this, of him, and feels a warm ache in her chest.
Leisure
Her favourite kind of story, though she would not know what to call it, is "iyashikei." Epic stories remind her too much of the legends people tell about her, which make her slightly uncomfortable. Mundane stories of girls' daily lives, meanwhile, remind her of friendly strangers.
She has spent a lot of time listening to random people talk about themselves, their homes, their problems... It was always a relief when all they wanted was to talk at her. Naturally, she associates an "iyashikei" type story with that feeling of relief and relaxation.
She doesn't think much of music and would likely never take up an instrument. Sometimes after passing by bards in town, she'll find herself humming their tunes while she travels. If her chocobos like it, she'll remember the song just for them.
Though she could master any manner of combat, she is not good at dancing. Haurchefant thought he'd teach her to waltz, no problem, during her first party in Ishgardian high society. They succeeded only in tripping over everyone else, to the great embarrassment of his family. But Haurchefant just laughed, charmed by her paradoxical lack of coordination. They both were better suited to the battlefield, it seemed!
